November 28th, 2018 | in Siding and Paneling

Metal siding is likely to become the most opted for choice for new residential construction just within a few short years. For use in residential buildings, aluminum and steel are the most common types of metal chosen. Each type has its own pros and cons, but in most applications, steel is usually the frontrunner.steelsidingvsaluminumsiding.jpg

Aluminum Siding

Aluminum siding is low maintenance once installed, and has a good level of resistance to rust. Aluminum siding comes in a variety of styles which can be appealing to homeowners, and tends to be lower cost when compared to steel sheet metal – however, aluminum lacks the architectural appeal and structural integrity that steel offers. Aluminum siding is generally quicker and easier to install, but does not always last as long as steel siding.

Steel Siding

Steel siding offers an unmatched durability and aesthetic appeal that is usually preferred by architects. Most steel siding also comes with a topcoat that removes the need to paint the siding – an assortment of topcoat colors and textures are available to match the look that is desired out of your home. Like aluminum, steel siding is low maintenance once installed. Steel siding usually comes at a higher cost than aluminum, so it is preferred only when it fits within the budget.

Both aluminum and steel siding options are becoming much more popular in the siding market. Each metal type comes with many options for finishes and with good durability. All metal siding is typically cheaper than composite board siding, and are generally easier to install.
